How it works

How to claim your rebates in Monroe County.

  1. 1

    Get a qualifying system installed

Have a qualifying geothermal or cold-climate heat pump system installed by a licensed NATE-certified contractor. For NYS Clean Heat, the contractor must be a participating contractor.

  2. 2

    Collect your documentation

Gather the contractor invoice showing installed system cost, model numbers, and efficiency ratings. For Federal 25D, you also need the Manufacturer's Certification Statement (the contractor provides this).

  3. 3

    Claim the Federal 25D credit

File IRS Form 5695 (Residential Energy Credits) with your federal tax return. Enter the full installed system cost — the 30% credit applies to equipment and installation labor. No cap. Credit is non-refundable but can carry forward.

  4. 4

Submit the NYS Clean Heat rebate

Your 4th Gen Mechanical contractor submits the NYS Clean Heat rebate application to RG&E on your behalf. Rebate checks typically arrive 8-12 weeks after submission. You do not need to file anything separately.

  5. 5

Apply for NYSERDA EmPower+ if income-eligible

If your household income is at or below 80% of Monroe County area median income (~$62,000 for a 4-person household), apply to NYSERDA EmPower+ before or alongside your contractor selection. Applications open at nyserda.ny.gov/empower.
